ENT surgery

Modern surgery has developed to such an extent that the body of knowledge and technical skills required have led to surgeons specialising in particular areas, usually an anatomical area of the body or occasionally in a particular technique or type of patient. There are ten surgical specialties and this briefing covers otolaryngology, or ears, nose and throat (ENT) surgery.
At Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital our Otolaryngologists (commonly referred to as ENT surgeons) deal with the diagnosis, evaluation and management of diseases of head and neck and principally the ears, nose and throat. One of the key areas of concern for ENT surgeons are helping patients cope with or recover from diseases that impair the senses of hearing and balance. They are also concerned with the functional aspects of breathing, eating and speech. ENT surgeons also deal with cancers in this region of the body.

Neuroloy and Neurosurgery

Neurology is a branch of Medicine which deals with disorders of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. All diseases which affect the brain and nervous system come under the preview of Neurology. Neurologist or Neurophysicians are trained to identify such cases. Symptoms of neurological diseases can range from headache, alteration in consciousness, dizziness, spinning sensation, double vision, paralysis or weakness of face, or limbs, numbness and tingling, imbalance, stiffness of limbs, abnormal movements, tremors, jerks, convulsions etc. Common disorders include stroke, brain hemorrhage, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, migraine, meningitis, encephalitis, epilepsy, peripheral neuropathies, spinal cord disorders etc.
Neurosurgery or Neurological surgery is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of conditions, illnesses and injuries involving the nervous system and its support structures. Intervention by a Neurosurgeon can be surgical but is most often non-surgical and is determined by the condition or injury as well as the general health of the person. Such problems may be the result of abnormal development from birth (congenital), from aging or wear and tear (degenerative), traumatic from a definite injury, infectious, neoplastic from a tumor or it may be related to other medical conditions or disease.
Our team of neurologist and neurosurgeons work closely together to diagnose and treat neurological diseases.

Vascular surgery

Vascular Surgery deals with diseases of all the blood vessels of the body, except for those inside the skull (Neurosurgery) and those of the heart (Cardiac Surgery). A vascular surgeon commonly deals with diseases of the arteries and veins. Today science and technology has advanced to a stage where there are treatment modalities available to prevent amputation and save many limbs. Just as angioplasty is possible to remove the blockages in the blood vessels of the heart and avoid bypass surgery, similarly angioplasty can be done for vessels going to the hands and legs and even to the brain. This is popularly known as key-hole surgery or minimally-invasive surgery or Endovascular Surgery. A vascular surgeon is trained in both open surgery and so-called “key hole” surgery (endovascular), so they are able to offer a better perspective on which treatment modality or combination is best suited for a particular patient. Our highly accomplished team offers solutions for all kinds of vascular problems.
